Equinor Should Look to Canada for Renewable Investment Opportunities Like Offshore Wind Energy
Media Release: For Immediate Release Thursday, April 17th, 2025
As news breaks that the United States Administration is halting a major wind development project by Equinor south of the border Sierra Club Canada reiterates its calls for Equinor to consider renewable energy investments in Canada.
Sierra Club Canada has been calling on Norwegian company Equinor to invest in renewable energy in Canada instead of oil and gas for several years.
While the organization hopes the U.S. will continue to develop renewables, they say this is all the more reason Equinor should look to Canada for renewable investment.
“Canada represents a more stable country in terms of regulation and development at this time and, working with communities, wind energy in Canada could thrive given the country’s incredible wind energy potential,” says Conor Curtis, Head of Communications at Sierra Club Canada.

An important note on referencing the Sierra Club Canada Foundation that there are three distinct Sierra Clubs: Sierra Club (in the United States), Sierra Club BC (in British Columbia), and Sierra Club Canada Foundation (operating nationally in Canada).
While we often work together, these organizations are all separate legal entities with separate management, financial structures, and boards. To be accurate, you should refer to our organization in articles or other coverage using the title “Sierra Club Canada” or the “Sierra Club Canada Foundation.” Our organization, the Sierra Club Canada Foundation, also contains five chapters: Sierra Club Ontario, Sierra Club Québec, Sierra Club Atlantic Canada, Sierra Club Prairie, and Sierra Youth (which is nationwide).
