The Sierra Club Canada Foundation attending COP26 in Glasgow

For Immediate Release: Tuesday, October 26th, 2021

The Sierra Club Canada Foundation (SCCF), in partnership with the Sierra Club of BC, will have representatives on the ground at the Global Climate Summit in Glasgow this November. The SCCF will be closely following the summit, and are eager to see how nations work together to reach an agreement on how to tackle the dual climate change and biodiversity crises.

The SCCF are also happy to respond to media inquiries as issues develop during the summit. Contact information for their representatives is included below.

For nearly three decades, the UN has been bringing together almost every country on earth for Global Climate Summits.These summits are called COPs, which stands for ‘Conference of the Parties’. This year will be the 26th annual summit (COP26) with the UK as President and with events hosted in Glasgow, Scotland.

COP26 arrives at a time of urgency; since after successive meetings, we are now in a global climate crisis. The Glasgow summit purports to tackle key international climate issues like;

  • Emissions targets;
  • Loss, mitigation and adaptation;
  • Climate finance; and
  • Climate compliance

Protecting and restoring nature is essential to effective climate action, and strong actions that link nature and climate action are essential. The Conference  of the Parties for Convention on Biological Diversity was held in China earlier this October.

Our Involvement

The Sierra Club Canada Foundation, along with The Sierra Club of BC, will be attending to continue our mission to empower Canadians to be leaders in protecting, restoring and enjoying healthy and safe ecosystems and to amplify solutions for the climate crisis.

The decisions made at COP26 will impact Canada and the world. We are taking part in the summit to act as informed contributors of positive change. As a nationally registered charity with chapters in Atlantic, Quebec, Ontario, and Prairie, plus the Sierra Youth Coalition, we want to bring forward voices and environmental concerns from across Canada during the summit.
