Winnipeg Engagement Coordinator – Job Opportunity

Page Winnipeg Engagement Coordinator Job.As a grassroots organization, Sierra Club Canada serves its supporters via regional Chapters. We are seeking to build our membership and engagement throughout our community with the support of the Canada Summer Job interns.

The Winnipeg Engagement Coordinator has three objectives:

  1. Coordinate the maintenance of a wildflower bed with the WinnipegWildflower Project and Sustainable South Osborne; and hosting events
  2. Empower urban citizens of Winnipeg to learn about, appreciate, and plant native prairie plants at home. 
  3. Increase Sierra Club Canada’s Membership 

We have a history of partnerships and agreements with both the Winnipeg Wildflower Project and the Sustainable South Osborne. In 2022 & 2023 we have planted a wildflower bed along the riverside of Churchill Drive between BalfourAve. and Eccles St. They will attend and organize community events such as talks, nature walks,and seed collection events and engage with participants with the end goal of increasing our membership base and educating the community.

Terms

This is an 8 week contract starting June 24, 2024 at 18$/hr and 35/hrs a week.

Tasks & responsibilities 

  • Coordinate and oversee the maintenance of the wildflower bed; Including the purchasing of plant materials, collaborating with the Winnipeg Wildflower Project and Sustainable South Osborne, communicating with volunteers to train them on garden maintenance, creating and coordinating their volunteer schedules at events and with required garden tasks.
  • Increase our membership base by engaging with the local community by hosting events at our Wildflower garden, collaborating with other organizations and attending community events to speak/table about Sierra Club Canada, create and promote educational resources on local native plants, as well as promoting the importance of membership.
  • With the help of the GEM coordinator, create a newsletter and social media updates about the garden over the summer.
  • Attend team meetings and provide weekly updates to supervisor;
  • Other related duties

Skills, Competencies & Qualifications

This is a Canada Summer Jobs position – successful applicants must be 30 yrs or younger at time of hire. 

    • Love for the environment and commitment to making positive change
    • Interested in learning about Sierra Club Canada programs, goals, and activities
    • Ability to engage with people from diverse backgrounds and perspectives
    • Familiar with event promotion and coordination
    • Gardening experience
    • Strong interpersonal, communication, and public speaking skills
    • Self-starter who can work independently and, on several tasks/projects simultaneously
    • Take initiative in identifying and resolving problems in a timely and effective manner
    • Knowledge of environmental issues helpful but not required
    • Bi-lingual English French an asset but not required
  • You must meet the eligibility criteria for Canada Summer Jobs:
    • be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period;
    • be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment, and
    • have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
