Sierra Club Peel lost a dedicated member of our group in January. Marie Blazic passed away January 6th, 2019 in her 68th year. Marie had been a Sierra Peel member since 2010. An enthusiastic environmentalist, she loved hiking, biking, canoeing and outdoor adventures. She was also an avid gardener and had a great love of nature and wildlife. This led her easily to involvement with Sierra Club Peel. Marie loved the opportunity to volunteer for the good of our environment, participating in Sierra tree planting events with CVC and TRCA in Mississauga and Brampton. As an enthusiastic supporter of Sierra, Marie had a gift for engaging the public on environmental issues at community events. She gave generously of her time to volunteer at Sierra Peel's outreach table at Seedy Saturdays, Mississauga Earth Market, Brampton Farmers Market, Community Parks Day, and many other community events. As a retired high school teacher Marie especially loved to engage with students at EcoBuzz each year. Marie frequently attended CVC Board meetings and always appreciated the informative presentations by staff, and learning what was happening in her watershed. Marie lived in Brampton not far from Fletcher's Creek. Most recently she had joined in activities for the Fletcher's Creek SNAP and had decided to be Sierra Peel's contact for that project. Unfortunately cancer took her suddenly and too soon. Marie was a caring, friendly person who had a zest for life, adventure and the great outdoors. She is greatly missed by her Sierra Peel friends and many others. |
